Check whether you have constipation or not. Each person’s bowel habits are different. Some people go three times a day, while others go three times a week. However, you may be constipated if you experience the following symptoms:
1. Fewer than three bowel movements a week
2. Stools that are hard, dry, or lumpy
3. Stools that are difficult or painful to pass
4. A feeling that not all stool has passed
5. Occasional ‘overflow’ of diarrhoea
The more of these symptoms you have the more likely you are to be constipated. If abdominal pain is also present, constipation may be part of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Constipation is not a disease, but may be a symptom of another medical problem.
